There are four types of illumination in lighting design:
- Ambient lighting
- Task lighting
- Accent lighting
- Decorative lighting
To achieve gorgeous lighting, combine all the types. Ambient light, also known as general lighting, is light that illuminates the entire space, for example a chandelier. Ambient light also comes from smaller light sources, such as a table lamp or a floor lamp, that add to the overall lighting in the space.
Task lighting is direct lighting used only for particular purposes, like working, doing homework, cooking, sewing ect. It is used to increase visibility in a tiny area by illuminating small details, reducing eye strain, and avoiding shadows. So it should be bright and convenient.
Accent lighting is used to call attention to a certain object (photo, statue, picture etc).To be effective accent lighting should be 5 times the level of ambient light in the space. Aiming an uplight at the wall behind the plant can help to highlight it.
Decorative lighting is a great way to give your living area a new lease on life. They are available in a variety of styles, patterns, and finishes. You may easily replace old standard bulbs with beautiful, energy-efficient ones.
