Wall Sconces for Bedrooms, Hallways & More. Wall Lighting Fixtures, Wall Lights, Wall Sconce Lighting

Sconce lamps are a real decoration of the home interior. With their soft light, they bring comfort and romance to the everyday environment, add individuality to the rooms, set them up for a comfortable rest and a pleasant pastime. To choose sconce light for your home, you need to know what kind of sconces there are and how to use them correctly in certain conditions and interiors.

The lamp performs not only the function of wall illumination in the interior, but also a decorative function. Also, with the help of sconces, you can zone the room or focus on individual interior items — for example, on a painting or a mirror.

Wall lamps in the interior can visually improve the room. If your corridor or room is too narrow, you can hang sconces on opposite walls, and the room will seem wider. And if the room has a low ceiling, a sconce can even be used instead of a chandelier. But in this case, you need to choose a lamp with brighter lighting.

WHY DO YOU NEED A WALL LAMP?

Insignificant, at first glance, the lighting device performs a number of important functions in the room. Local lighting is the direct purpose of sconces. The wall lights can be placed in the bedroom above the bed for comfortable reading, at the mirror for hygienic and cosmetic procedures, at photos or paintings to place light accents.

Full-fledged lighting of the room. In apartments with narrow corridors, small bathrooms or with low ceilings, even a compact chandelier will "eat up" space. Several miniature wall lamps will provide enough light and harmoniously fit into the interior. The right wall lamp shade create an atmosphere. The chandelier gives a bright light, which may be inappropriate in a romantic setting, for relaxation or a pleasant friendly conversation. Wall-mounted appliances create cozy diffused lighting that helps to relax. In one-room apartments and studio apartments, with the help of sconces, you can zone the room, dividing it into working and sleeping places, kitchen or study areas. Lamp wall light accents also can hide the shortcomings of the repair.

HOW TO CHOOSE WALL LAMPS FOR HOME

Before buying a wall lamp, you need to decide on two important points:

    • for what purpose is a wall lamp needed in a room,
    • how much light should this device give and what quality of light should it be.

Local lighting is the main purpose of sconce lamps. If the device is selected to increase the illumination of a certain area, you need to pay attention to both the light quality indicators and the aesthetic characteristics of the models.

Atmospheric lighting – sconces perfectly help to create a certain mood in the room: romantic, cozy, cheerful, working. To achieve the desired effect with the help of lamps, it is worth paying attention to the direction of the lampshades and the power of the device.

Zoning lighting – wall lamps help to divide the room into zones for work and rest. In work areas, it is better to use light sources of the cold part of the spectrum, warm or neutral illumination is more suitable for recreation areas.

    Living Room

Sconces are a great option for organizing local lighting in the main room of the house. Most often, wall lamps are placed in the recreation area – near a sofa or armchair. The soft light from such devices creates a special comfort, and also helps to relax and soothe. Sconce models for the living room can be absolutely any, the main thing is that they correspond to the general concept of the interior of the room.

    Bedroom

Wall lights for bedroom are traditionally used to illuminate the bedside area. Most often, paired glass wall lamps are purchased here, which are placed symmetrically on both sides of the bed. This is both aesthetically pleasing and practical: family members occupying the bedroom can safely read before going to bed, without being afraid to interfere with their "soulmate". If there is a dressing table and a mirror in the recreation room, long sconces can be placed near them. In this case, it is also worth buying a pair of long wall lamps so that long wall lights evenly illuminate the figure and face of a person, otherwise the mirror will distort the image. It is better to choose swivel sconces in the bedroom so that you can more accurately adjust the direction of the luminous flux. A dimmer that allows you to adjust the light intensity will also be a useful addition.

    Kitchen

Wall lamps look most appropriate in kitchens, where a dining table is placed along one of the walls of the room. The required number of appliances is determined based on the size of the table: if it is small, one minimalist wall lamp is enough, but if a large company of friends and relatives can comfortably accommodate at the table, it is worth buying at least 2-3 wall light fixtures for lighting the dining area. In the kitchen, you should not buy lamps with a complex decor at all, as well as appliances with plafonds made of textiles. It will be difficult to take care of such equipment – you will have to regularly wash and wash all external elements from greasy stains and other contaminants. The ideal sconce for the kitchen is a device of a simple geometric shape (ball, cube or cone) with a metal base and a ceiling made of ceramic, glass or high-quality plastic. It is better to refuse the purchase of lamps with textile lampshades here.

    Bathroom

Installing sconces is not the most common way to organize lighting in the bathroom. In standard rooms there is simply no extra space for this type of lamps so you can use small wall lights. If the dimensions of the bathroom allow the use of additional illumination, it is most rational to place sconces at the mirror – the light from them will make it more comfortable to perform daily hygienic and cosmetic procedures. To illuminate mirrors, you need to purchase paired devices that match the design of the main concept of the interior of the room or at least close in style to the main ceiling lamp.

Modern wall sconces placed in the bathroom should create neutral lighting that will be as close to natural as possible – only in this case the image in the mirror will be transmitted without any distortion.

    Entrance Hall and Corridor

In the hallway, the sconce can be used to illuminate the mirror. For this purpose, it makes sense to purchase a pair of devices with a concise design. The light from them should not be too intense, otherwise, reflected in the mirror, it will dazzle the eyes. Too pretentious design and an abundance of decor in a standard hallway will not look too appropriate, so it is better to give preference to simple geometric shapes: balls or cubes. You can also use crystal sconces to create some charm of decorative wall lamps.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING AND INSTALLING SCONCES

Below we will give the basic rules of how to choose a modern wall lamp. Guided by them, you will choose the optimal lamp and be able to install it correctly.

To visually expand the space, place several devices at the same height. Choose models where the light is directed at the ceiling. Classic sconces made "antique" are not installed one by one. If you choose a single model, it should be in the same style with a chandelier or other interior items.

To illuminate the mirror, use two devices, placing them on both sides. Choose sconces according to the design of the mirror. If it is oval in shape, products with rounded plafonds are suitable, if with sharp corners — rectangular or square solutions. To illuminate paintings or photos, buy sconces with frosted glass elements. They don't create glare.

A few more tips on choosing:

    • In order for wall sconces to look harmoniously in the interior of a room, they need to be selected in the same style with a chandelier or a main ceiling lamp. The simplest and most rational option would be to purchase all the necessary devices from the same collection of any manufacturer you like.
    •  If there is a stretch ceiling and wall lamps in the room will be located in close proximity to it, you need to choose led lamp for wall. LED bulbs in the led wall lamp do not heat up, which means they cannot cause damage or ignition of ceiling materials.
    •  For rooms with low ceilings, "halves" sconces that create an upward light stream are better suited. Such lamps will visually "expand" the space, making the interior freer and "light". In rooms with high ceilings, you can place absolutely any models of sconces.
