Modern Chandeliers

A modern chandelier is defined by clean lines, an emphasis on form and materials over ornament, and contemporary technology. Instead of the ornate arms and cut glass of traditional designs, modern chandeliers use geometric shapes, linear and ring silhouettes, and finishes like brushed brass, matte black, chrome and smoked or clear glass, usually with integrated energy-efficient LED. The result is a sculptural statement piece that suits open-plan and minimalist interiors.

Yes. Modern chandeliers are among the most popular choices for both. In a living room a round or cluster design works as a central sculptural focal point; in a dining room a linear or rectangular chandelier echoes the shape of the table and lights it evenly. Choose a warm 2700 to 3000K LED for a relaxed living space, and consider a dimmable fixture so one chandelier can shift from bright and functional to soft and atmospheric.

For a room-centering fixture, add the room's length and width in feet and use that sum in inches as the ideal diameter, so a 12 by 14 ft room suits roughly a 26-inch chandelier. Over a dining table, size the chandelier to about half to two-thirds the table's width and hang it 30 to 34 inches above the surface. For tall or double-height rooms, choose a taller multi-tier or cascading design so it stays in proportion.
